COMPARE COST SAVINGS WITH FUEL-EFFICIENCY CAR LABELS

New cars on the lot will be sporting new fuel-efficiency labels that for the first time will differentiate between gasoline cars, hybrid cars and electric cars. But don't expect to see them on all vehicles until the 2013 model year is unveiled early in 2012; until then, using the new sticker is optional.

Here's how the new stickers look:


The new labels include not only estimated mpg, but also estimated fuel savings costs relative to average vehicles, the fuel or electricity needed to drive 100 miles, information on the driving ranges and charging times of electric vehicles, and comparative information about a vehicle's smog- and global warming-causing tailpipe emissions.
