HISTORIC REFORM PASSES IN TENNESSEE WITH YOUR HELP MORE CAN BE DONE

HISTORIC REFORM PASSES IN TENNESSEE WITH YOUR HELP MORE CAN BE DONE

Last week, Governor Haslam signed historic legislation that will put an end to seniority-based layoffs, will give parents the choices they deserve, and will ensure only the most effective teachers stay in the classroom.

Studies show teachers have the single biggest in-school impact on a child's success -- and with these reforms we can be confident the future looks bright for Tennessee's kids.

Thanks to all of the members who signed up -- for sending thousands of emails to state legislatorsin support of ending "last in, first out" (LIFO) and expanding school choice for Tennessee parents and students. Tennessee StudentsFirst members learned about the issues, organized and spread the word, and through all this hard work had an incredible impact. Your hard work resulted in the following changes to education policies:

  • It put a stop to the harmful "last in, first out" policy which will save Tennessee's great teachers from layoffs.

  • It gave parents and students the choice they deserve by lifting the state cap on charter schools and allowing all students to attend great charter schools if they choose to do so.

  • It reformed tenure to ensure only the most effective teachers receive tenure and ineffective teachers are removed from the classroom.

All parents want their children to have the best teacher possible. We can always use the help of individuals willing to help make a change. SIGN UP TOADAY! or DONATE to Studentsfirst.org and help us continue to fight to put our children first. These new laws will allow Tennessee to hire and keep exceptional teachers by making sure that, even in the face of layoffs, the best teachers stay in the classroom.

Dedicate this great win and say thank you to a great teacher you know now:
