REGINALD LEWIS FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER EXCEEDS MILLION-DOLLAR MATCH GOAL

Prominent figures from the business, sports, media and philanthropic arenas came out for the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation Gala Luncheon at the Lewis Estate in East Hampton on Saturday, June 25, 2011. 

The event was held to raise funds toward a $1 million endowment challenge grant from The Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Family Foundation, in support of the work of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture. Event chair Leslie Lewis Sword, Lewis' eldest daughter, announced that the gala raised more than $665,000, which combined with $500,000 raised by her mother and former event chair Loida Lewis over the previous three years of the gala, matches the Brown Foundation challenge grant. 

Harvard Law School Bussey Professor Emeritus Frank E. A. Sander, who taught and mentored Lewis at Harvard Law, received the Millennium Member Award. Profit Investment Management CEO Eugene A. Profitreceived the Reginald F. Lewis Award, presented to an African American entrepreneur who has broken barriers to become internationally successful before the age of 50.
